A‑List Japanese Star Forced Female Staff to Send Nude Photos, Triggering Group’s Disbandment
Legendary Japanese pop‑rock band Tokio officially disbanded on June 25, following the shocking misconduct of member Taichi Kokubun, who pressured a female staff member into sending nude photos. The group posted on their official site:
“Due to recent illegal actions by member Taichi Kokubun, we have caused significant concern and trouble for all parties involved. […] Given the current circumstances, regaining fans’ trust is extremely difficult. Therefore, we’ve decided to end all group activities.”
Kokubun, now 50, was immediately removed from Nippon TV’s popular variety show The Tetsuwan Dash after network executives deemed his behavior a serious compliance violation. An insider confirmed the misconduct involved sexual harassment.
Formed in 1994 under Johnny & Associates, Tokio was known for its musical versatility, steady album sales (about 9 million copies worldwide), and long-running TV presence. However, this isn’t their first scandal: in 2018, bassist Tatsuya Yamaguchi was ousted after forcibly kissing a minor. Kokubun himself publicly apologized on behalf of the group at that time, making his own misconduct even more ironic.
The recent incident not only destroyed Kokubun’s reputation but also dismantled a 31-year legacy. The group’s official statement expressed deep apologies to fans and all parties, noting: “it would be difficult to continue as Tokio and regain full support”.
All remaining members Shigeru Joshima, Masahiro Matsuoka, and Kokubun himself—have yet to announce solo plans. Nippon TV and sponsors have already cut ties: Kokubun’s appearances and endorsements are suspended pending further developments.
